Lewis Porter-Phil Scarff Group distinguished as “a sweet return to sixties flavored jazz” by O’s Place

WHALING CITY SOUND
LEWIS PORTER PHIL SCARFF GROUP/Three Minutes to Four:  A sweet return to sixties flavored jazz when jazzbos felt free to take international chances under the wave of Beatlemania that was washing over everything .  Loaded with the smoking side of the east meets west jazzbo vibe of the times, this set will either take you back or make you venture further.  Real pros kicking it out for the sake of good times.

John SteinWood and Strings  5/4

O’s Notes: This is a duo between guitarist John Stein and bassist Dave Zinno. It’s a combination of Wood & Strings that comes together really, really nicely. Whether they are playing proven standards or originals, it is fresh and enjoyable. The pair work well together finishing off each other’s phrases almost like a seasoned couple. Just sit back and enjoy the ride, it’s delightful!

Steve Langone forms a drummer’s trio

Breathe 3/3

D. Oscar Gomez- Drummer Steve Langone forms a trio with Dave Zinno (b) and Kevin Harris (p). They came together in Boston getting educated, teaching and performing. While this is Steve’s trio, he takes an understated role with few if any solos. He does a good job of integrating the team through nine selections. Each of the musicians contributes an original with Zinno giving two of his compositions. Breathe is a relaxing session that is mostly midtempo and ballads that serves as good background listening. Image result for steve langone breathe

O’s Place Praises Terry Gibbs in Latest Review

O’s Place Praises Terry Gibbs in Latest Review
“Terry Gibbs   –   92 Years Young: Jammin’ At The Gibb’s House   4/3

O’s Notes: We have much respect for a 93-year-old musician who can still cut it! In the case of vibraphonist Terry Gibbs, we have much love and admiration for a man who remains in rare form performing with a swinging quartet coaxed by his son, drummer Gerry Gibbs, pianist John Campbell and Mike Gurrola on bass. Yes, Gerry suggested the jam session in dad’s living room and we are now blessed with a wonderful recording of fourteen classics. There’s no showboating, but a heckofa lot of good music that will satisfy a large audience in almost any setting! Hats off to Terry!”

AGNZ’s Chance Meeting reviewed by O’s Place and is at #46 on JazzWeek chart
On February 14th, O’s Place Jazz Newsletter reviewed AGNZ‘s Chance Meeting as follows:
“O’s Notes: A.G.N.Z. is a quartet featuring guitarist Jay Azzolina, Dino Govoni on sax, drummer Adam Nussbaum and bassist Dave Zinno. Dave and Adam had a successful tour in Europe that sparked interest in doing more together. They all convened in Providence, RI and their dream became reality. Each of the band members contributes at least one composition to this all-original set. That gives the session lots of variety as the Chance Meeting evolved into a strong session where the musicians gelled as a band. Among the best tunes are “N.T.I.”, “1 Of 3” and “Asha”.”
Chance Meeting is currently at #46 on the JazzWeek Chart
Azzolina Govoni Nussbaum Zinno/Chance Meeting/082 (re-peaks at 12, 23 weeks airplay) Four powerful jazz artists in mid-career, all with New England roots and impressive experience, come together in one explosion of brilliant light, to produce ten originals, full of purposeful playing and sublime solos. Chance meeting indeed! Perhaps though it’s not a coincidence that drummer Adam Nussbaum, bassist Dave Zinno, guitarist Jay Azzolina, and saxophonist Dino Govoni met at all. Together, the first-call quartet fuses beautifully on their debut play date together.
