Earlier this week, Greg Abate was featured on Neon Jazz for interview regarding his fourth recording with the Tim Ray Trio on the Whaling City Sound label with his CD Gratitude – State Door Live @ The Z. Abate shares with his listeners his continuous desire for improvement and critical thoughts he possesses about his performances that in turn, only aid in his ability to grow. Lately he has been trying to be more creative, creating different lines and verses for different lengths to switch things up. Contrary to the publics initial belief, this performer unlike many others, prefers a lack of rehearsal before recording or performing. He states “I like the in the moment type of playing…that unpredictable rehearse”. Greg Abate and the Tim Ray Trio’s newest album is described by Abate himself as “sincere with no gimmicks…with communication with the audience both verbally and musically”. It is truly a beautiful album. Check out the full interview to get to know the real Greg Abate!

“The Key” to a performers success is providing a beautiful, well developed performance for their viewers, and that is exactly what Eric Wyatt and the Mike Boone Trio do. Earlier this month the group was mentioned in the Philadelphia news letter. Twelve year old drum prodigy, Mekhi Boone, son of Mike Boone, played during the groups set. This month the age-diverse and talented group performed in Philly at Chris’s Jazz Cafe as well as at the Center City Fest and both performances were a hit! Eric Wyatt on the saxophone killed it. His skills originated with his father’s passion for the instrument. It then got passed onto Eric and ever since he has not only thrived but he also works to inspire other young jazz musicians. Keep in tune to hear of any upcoming Wyatt events!

This upcoming summer, the Eastern Connecticut Performing Arts Association (ECPAA) will be hosting their second, annual jazz festival. The event will take place in Griswold, Connecticut. Jazz saxophonist, flutist, composer, Greg Abate, will be one of the performers! The roots of the event began with the non-profit arts organization, composed of performers, artists and prominent local business people, wanting to put on a more local Jazz Festival, independent from the Newport Jazz Festival. After this concept, they decided, go big or go home. Rather than a small festival they decided on a larger one, with free parking, low-priced tickets and of course entertainment. Once they established a location, everything else began to fall into place. The ECPAA is excited for this years event. It will consist of four, 90 minute performances, allowing the audience to fully connect to the music. Food and drink vendors will be present as well. Mark your calendars for June 8th because tickets go on are on sale now. Click here to purchase tickets.
