After graduating from the prestigious Berklee School of Music, jazz saxophonist, flutist, and composer Greg Abate played lead alto saxophone in the Ray Charles Orchestra for two years in the early ‘70s. In 1978, he formed the group Channel One, and later played tenor sax in the revived Artie Shaw Orchestra, directed by Dick Johnson.
Following this experience Greg ventured out as post hard bop soloist playing Jazz Festivals, Jazz Societies and Jazz Clubs throughout the U.S. Canada and abroad, including most of Europe, UK, and Moscow and Georgia Russia, and has released more than 16 albums.
Greg’s newest release Gratitude, with the Tim Ray Trio has received glowing reviews and a lot of international airplay.

Thursday, October 5, Eddie’s Attic (515 N McDonough St, Decatur, Georgia) features Vance Gilbert live!

Boston based Vance Gilbert started out hoping to sing jazz, later gravitating towards the storytelling sensibilities of acoustic folk music.
Shawn Colvin made him special guest on her Fat City tour. With 12 albums (5 for Rounder Records), Gilbert has been opener of choice for artists as varied as Aretha Franklin and Arlo Guthrie, later opening 140+ shows for the late George Carlin.
More recently he’s consistently fronted Paul Reiser, the Milk Carton Kids, and the Subdudes.
He has tunes on pop star Mike Posner’s upcoming album, and a tune on a Grammy Nominated children’s album.
