Musicians and jazz lovers, here’s an early heads-up on a presentation by noted jazz saxophonist Greg Abate taking place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. It’s called Jazz 101 and in it Abate will explore jazz improvisation and what constitutes a jazz performance.
Abate will demonstrate harmonic progressions, melodies and bass lines. He’ll also discuss and demonstrate the function and chord progressions of drum and piano, wind instruments and vocals.
Abate will also look at how a song is created as well as the concept of playing jazz in the moment and the relationships of harmony, melody and rhythm.
