This week’s Ear Bliss offers a preview of some of the performers scheduled to appear at next weekend’s 20th annual Rhythm & Roots Festival. The festival runs Friday through Sunday at Ninigret Park in Charlestown, and for its first time a full day of music on Friday. The 2017 edition once again mixes music scene vets the likes of The Mavericks, Roseanne Cash in her first R&R appearance, a reunion of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy along with old favorites like Marcia Ball, Natalie McMaster, Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys, and home state favorite Sarah Potenza joined by husband Ian Crossman. It is a full weekend of entertainment spread across four different stages with terrific food and drink available, not to mention an extensive array of crafts. In other words, never a dull moment when it comes to Rhythm & Roots. Joining those aforementioned performers are an array of talent from the roots music world and beyond including MarchFourth!, The Knickerbocker All Stars with special guests, The New Orleans Suspects with Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett of Little Feat fame, Shinyribs, Jeffery Broussard & the Creole Cowboys, Pine Leaf Boys, Ten Strings and A Goatskin, The Turtle Duhks, Los Texmaniacs, Courtney Granger and the Bad Hombres, Lilly Hiatt, Horace Trahan and the Ossun Express, Say Darling, a special Sunday Gospel session with Sarah Potenza & Christine Ohlman, The Revelers, and the Alex Meixner Band. There will also be a group of artists in residence including Ed Poullard and Preston Frank, David Greely, Johnny Nicholas, Hot Tamale Brass Band, Magnolia and Li’l Anne and Hot Cayenne.
