Jazz fans are invited to experience an evening of world-class jazz as acclaimed saxophonist Greg Abate returns to Scullers Jazz Club in Boston on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
Recognized as one of today’s leading alto saxophonists, Abate has built an international reputation as a performer, composer, recording artist, and educator. A longtime favorite among jazz audiences, he was voted the #2 Alto Saxophonist in the 2022 DownBeat Readers Poll and has remained in the publication’s Top 5 Alto Saxophonists for three consecutive years.
Abate tours extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom, performing at premier jazz clubs, festivals, and concert venues. Early in his career, he held the lead alto saxophone chair in the Ray Charles Orchestra and later performed with the revived Artie Shaw Orchestra under the direction of Dick Johnson.
A longtime recording artist with Whaling City Sound, Abate has released more than 25 albums as a leader. His acclaimed Whaling City Sound recording Magic Dance: The Music of Kenny Barron spent seven weeks at #1 on the JazzWeek radio chart, while Kindred Spirits, recorded live with the legendary Phil Woods, captured two alto saxophone masters sharing the stage in a memorable performance.
For this special Scullers appearance, Abate will be joined by an all-star quartet featuring pianist Tim Ray, bassist John Lockwood, and drummer Mark Walker—three internationally respected musicians whose collective experience and artistry promise an unforgettable evening of modern jazz.
