“Eric Hargett’s playing has it all….an immediately identifiable sound, great time and sense of phrasing, soulful with a sophisticated harmonic concept, and deep roots in the jazz and blues tradition. He knocked me out and can’t wait to hear more…” Gary Smulyan
LINER NOTES: I had the good fortune of recording my first solo album with two incredible musicians. Gerry Gibbs is an accomplished drummer and prolific composer who has played with countless jazz music luminaries. When he and I met, the chemistry between us was instantaneous. I joined Gerry’s Thrasher Big Band, which performed with jazz legends such as Clark Terry, James Moody and Jon Hendricks. This association led me to later work with the Terry Gibbs Dream Band. I was also a member of the Gerry Gibbs Thrasher Sextet and contributed numerous c!ontributions to the group.!
Being an enormous fan of the legendary Hammond B3 organ groups, such as Jimmy Smith, Larry Young, Lonnie Smith, I was fortunate to have found Joey DeFrancesco, a living legend on the instrument. It was a privilege to have him record on B3 organ, acoustic piano, Fender Rhodes and the Moog synthesizer. This is likely the first time Joey has recorded on all of these instruments on the same album. Gerry, Joey, and I recorded the ten songs, including eight originals, in one afternoon without a single rehearsal. I give credit to Gerry and Joey, who utilized their musical sophistication and intuition to take the music to great places.
